Site Updates

If you have visited here before, you will see that I have updated the site fairly extensively and will continue to make some modifications over the next couple of weeks. I will be adding rates/services information and changing how the portfolio images are presented. In the meantime, have a look around and let me know what you think. I would love to have your feedback.

John Merritt invited me to particpate in this event to launch his new studio. While I was not entirely sure what to expect, it was really a great experience. It was a unique event in that I was one of the more experienced photographers there when it comes to working with models and MUAs in a studio environment. I felt that I was finally able to give back some of the knowledge and advice that has been given to me by other veteran photographers that I have had the honor to work with over the last year or so. Thanks to Kat Flynt, Kimberly Cotto and Tracie Donaldson for the excellent makeup and also to the fantastic models for putting up with the nearly unbearable heat that day (You gotta love Atlanta in the summertime!). A special thanks to John for opening up his studio to us and for arranging everything. Click on the title to see some of my pictures fromt he event.

Kat Flynt recently invited Stu Haluski, Frank Young and myself to spend the day photographing some amazingly creative models adorned with her sensational makeup applications. Needless, to say the makeup, the models and the food were all outstanding. It was also great to receive some wonderful advice from both Stu and Frank. A huge thanks to Kat for allowing me to participate. And thanks to everyone else involved. I look forward to working with all of you again. Click on the title block to see some of my favorites from the event.

This wonderful event is exacty as Kat describes it on her website - Cooperating makeup Artists, Models and Photographers. The makeup artists were fantastic, the models were exceptional and the food was delicious. All that I can say is that if you are lucky enough to be invited to one of Kat's events, do yourself a favor and accept the invitation. You definitely will not regret it. Many thanks to the wonderful makeup artists and models. And thanks again, Kat, for organizing this and allowing me to participate. Click on the title to see some of my favorite shots from the event.

Biography

I was initially interested in photography when my parents gave me a Kodak 110 camera for my ninth birthday. Shortly thereafter, my father purchased a Minolta XG-M SLR camera. At the time, he had a pilot's license. He and I would take ariel photographs for local businesses. He would fly and I would shoot.

After this, I did not do any serious shooting for over 15 years because of other priorities (school, work, etc.). In my late twenties, I became interested in astronomy. I purchased an old Pentax MX SLR to use for astrophotography with my telescopes.

My primary job as a technical consultant requires that I travel all over the country. I began taking my camera with me when I travelled. I would shoot landscapes and architectural images. In early 2004, a colleague that knew of my hobby and had seen some of my work asked me if I would like to shoot promotional photos of a bikini contest for a bar in Orlando where his son works. This was my first foray into "people" photography beyond simple snapshots. Some of the images were good enough that (with encouragement from the models) I decided to pursue it further.

Since that first contest, I have had the good fortune to shoot several other similar events for various bars and clubs throughout central and northern Florida. Now, I am looking to expand my abilities and portfolio into the fashion and glamour photography areas. I find this to be the most challenging type of photography. It is also the most rewarding because of the interaction with all of the wonderful models, make up artists, assistants and other photographers.

I enjoy both location and studio shooting. If you are interested in a fashion or glamour type TFP/CD opportunity, contact me. As you can see from my portfolio and other shots on this site, I prefer natural looking shots that accentuate the inherent beauty of the models with which I work. When I shoot TFP, I truly believe that it is a collaborative effort between myself, the model, and the make up artists where we not only contribute with our specific talents but also offer suggestions about all aspects of the shoot. This interaction is what makes this type of shooting most enjoyable and ultimately successful for everyone involved.

Projects

Currently, my primary focus is developing my glamour/swimwear portfolio. If you are a model that specializes in this and are looking to expand your portfolio with casual/fashion photos, I would be more than happy to to split a TFP session where half the time is spent doing fashion and the other half on glamour or swimwear. Just contact me at herb.lamb@herblambphotography.com with the details. Please include a headshot and full length shot (snapshots are OK) along with your particulars and an idea of the type of shots in which you are interested.

Time for Prints/CD

I believe that TFP should be a collaborative effort between the model, makeup artist and photographer. My goal in every TFP/CD shoot is to get quality images for everyone involved.

The following is list of my basic TFP/CD conditions. Full Release

  • Model will provide the wardrobe and makeup
  • Normally, I require the services of a makeup artist. If you are unable to afford the services of an MUA, I might be willing to share some of the costs with you. Contact me for details.

  • Model and photographer may use images for print and electronic self promotion.
  • Images cannot be used for commercial purposes without express consent of other party.
  • Generally, if the images are used commercially, I will split any profit generated from the sale with the model or provide a tearsheet.

  • Photographer retains copyright of the images.
  • Model will receive up to 15 to 20 proofs per look from the shoot. The model will choose 3 shots from each look to be retouched and provided in a high resolution, digital format.
  • Within 1 week of the shoot, I will provide you with a link to a private website of the useable images from the shoot. You select the shots you want to receive. Within 3 weeks of your selection, I will provide those images as 300ppi print quality JPEG files on CD. The CD will also contain a copy of the files optimized for web publication (72 ppi - 600 pixels on the long side) that contain my copyright information.

Links

Here are several sites that I have found useful in developing my photographic skills. I have also included links to the sites of models, photographers and makeup artists with which I have worked or whose work I have found inspirational.

Photography Information

Garage Glamour - An invaluable resource containing a wealth of information about glamour and beauty photography. In addition to the tips, the site offers portfolio hosting for models, photographers and make-up artists as well as forums to discuss various aspects of glamour/beauty photography.

The Luminous Landscape - This is Michael Reichmann's site about landscape photography. Although its primary focus is landscape photography, much of the information found here is applicable to all types of photography. He also offers what, in my opinion, are the best reviews of photographic equipment found anywhere because they are oriented toward usability rather than technical specifications.

Peach Magazine - A magazine for the fashion, swimwear and glamour modeling/photography industry in the southeast.
